The maps below show the center of a small town called Islip as it is now and plans for its development.
Islip town center now:
In the north there is the countryside. In the saunth of the countryside, there are shops, and opposite the shops on the south side of the Main Road there are more shops. Behind the shops, in the south of them actually, there is a large housing area with a park in the southeast and a school in the southwest.
Islip town center, planned development:
The development plan is as follows. The Main Road will be gone, and instead there will be a dual carriageway in a circular shape all around the area. Inside the dual carriageway, there is a large hamburger bread-shaped area that will cover the previous countryside, the shops, the Main Road, and the housing. Inside, there will be new housing, a car park, a shopping center, and a bus station in the north stretched from the east to the west. In the south of the above, there will be a pedestrian-only path, south of which there will be shops. In the south of the shops, there will be new housing and the reduced park. Outside the borders of the dual carriageway in the south, the school will remain almost the same, with a small change in its layout, but there will be more housing.
The comparison between the current center of Islip town and the planned development reveals significant changes in the layout and infrastructure of the area.
Currently, the town center of Islip consists of a countryside in the north, with the Main Road in the south and on both side of the road there are shops. Behind the southern shops lies a sizable residential area, accompanied by a park in the southeast and a school in the southwest.
In the proposed development plan, there is a complete transformation of the town center. The Main Road will be eliminated and replaced by a circular dual carriageway surrounding the entire area. Inside this circular road, a large area shaped like a hamburger bun will be established, encompassing the previous countryside, shops, Main Road, and housing. This area will house new residential buildings, a car park, a shopping center, and a bus station stretching from east to west in the northern section.
South of the pedestrian-only path within the circular area, there will be a new set of shops. Adjacent to the shops, there will be additional housing and a reduced park. Outside the borders of the dual carriageway, the school will remain relatively unchanged, although there will be some minor adjustments to its layout. The southern area surrounding the school will see an increase in housing.
Overall, the planned development reflects a comprehensive redesign of Islip town center. It introduces a circular road system, centralizes commercial and residential spaces, enhances transportation infrastructure, and optimizes land utilization. These changes aim to modernize the town center, accommodate increased housing needs, and provide improved amenities and facilities for residents and visitors.
